BBS community standards

Because your interaction with this BBS is via computer, it's easy to forget that there are people "out there." Please remember that people all over the world can and will read your words. Try not to say anything to others you would not say to them in person in a room full of people. When reading messages, remember this community is rich with diversity. There will be people who do not think the same as you.

Most people on a BBS will know you only by what you post, but they may someday be your co-workers or friends. Take some time to ensure each posting is something that will not embarrass you later. Make sure that the post is easy to read and understand. It is a good practice to read your messages at least once before you actually post them. Remember some things are better left unsaid.

Do not use the BBS to carry on prolonged disagreements with a particular individual. If it is between the two of you, keep it that way. Try to contact each other and continue your discussion in private.

If you have strong differences of opinion with others or just don't like them, it is far better to ignore them than to engage in hostile postings. Flame wars will not be tolerated.

Libelous statements

Messages posted on this BBS are the responsibility of the persons posting them. If you libel others, you will be held accountable. The Gloversville District Management Association does not endorse any of the opinions or statements made by others on the BBS.

Harassment and vulgarity

This forum is a place to discuss ideas. All ideas and responses are welcome, including points contrary to the material of the previous posting. Postings that are intended to insult or inflame any individual or group, as well as impersonated posts, are not appropriate and may be removed. Postings that are threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, pornographic, hateful, racially or ethnically objectionable, or that may give rise to civil or criminal liability are not welcome, and may be removed.

User names

Using a valid email address is requested, but optional. We ask you not to use an alias, but to consistently use your own name. Whether you choose to use your full name, first initial and last name, first name and last initial, or first name only is up to you. Do not impersonate others or use multiple names.

Subject lines

Keep your subject lines short and descriptive. The subject line enables a person with limited time to decide whether or not to read it. A title like "Read Me!" does not help much.

Writing in capital letters

Writing in capital letters on the BBS (as in regular e-mail) is equivalent to screaming. Please refrain from posting in all caps.

Removal of Inappropriate Posts

We reserve the right to delete posts. This decision will be based solely on our own determination of the appropriate use of the BBS. Decisions will be final. If you see a posting that you think may be inappropriate, do not waste space by responding to it; just report it to davegibson @ fultoncomputer.com. It is in everyone's best interest to keep this forum polite and informative.
